There are two 80GB PS3 models. The CECHE 80GB model is backwards compatible with PS2 games. It used a similar setup to the CECHC model, using software emulation for the Emotion Engine and RAMBUS memory but also using the PS2 GPU the Graphics Synthesiser. If you're being honest and this ps3 doesn't play ps2 games but it was advertised as a fully functional ps3 that did play ps2 games then the seller sold you a faulty item that was described incorrectly. IMO releasing them with FW 1.10 was not planned at the start as they had games made with lower FW than that on the disc which makes no sense if they knew the launch FW version would be FW 1.10 all along, So my theory is that they decided later on to release with 1.10 and probably had to update the boards at some point.
