I picked up a 15-3 in excellent condition, just a slight hint of a drag line on the cylinder, otherwise 99%. I'm trying to figure out the age of this revolver, serial number is 1K15XXX. Best I can tell from Google this is circa 1970. Can anyone verify this? It doesn't have the diamond service grips so I do know its after 1967.. 1a138 52 coil specs
Oct 19, 2006 · The .45 Cal Model of 1950 was the prerunner to the Model 26 a light barreled target gun. The .45 Cal Model of 1955 was the pre-model 25. These gun serial numbers started with the prefix "S", not "N" as yours is. Your N prefixed serial number puts manufacture in 1976. As yours is a known model 25-2. The Model 29-3 came out in 1982 and this was a sad day for Smith and Wesson. The Model 29 continued and the Model 29-7 ushered in the era of MiM parts. Under no circumstances should you ever buy a Model 29-7. These are schmoed-out pieces of junk and are best used as paperweights.S&W took the compact 6904 slide and barrel and slapped it on the 5903 frame. The 5903, being the full-size aluminum framed 9mm duty gun, meant it was already a light weight gun. As a frame of reference, the one I have is 659XXX which is fairly accurately dated to 1936. I would guess yours is late '20s to early '30s. The serial number is on the bottom of the grip. You might want to check and make sure the ejector rod is screwed in all the way, it can back out a turn or two and sometimes cause the gun to lock up.
